The Cook County DFL enthusiastically supports Quinn Nystrom to represent our 8th Congressional District in this year’s election to the U.S. House of Representatives. Quinn embraces and will fight for a number of changes crucial to improving our district, state, and national well-being.
On healthcare: Quinn is a fierce advocate for making and keeping medications affordable, lowering out-of-pocket health care expenses, cutting deductible prices, and protecting coverage for people with pre-existing conditions.
On education: Schools are desperately struggling to cover expenses, with slashed budgets that leave core disciplines, not to mention sports and the arts, without enough funding. With districts unable to adequately staff schools and fund crucial programs, teachers are left to manage as best they can with packed classrooms, and students don’t receive all the services they need. Quinn will fight to ensure that Congress passes key legislation to fully fund education, so local school districts no longer have to dramatically raise levies and cut teaching staff.
On climate change: Climate change is an existential threat to our planet, our state, and our district, and we must do everything we can to fight it. Quinn will promote Minnesota’s Weatherization Assistance Program and support renewable energy technologies by expanding the energy investment tax credit to make solar, wind, and other renewable energy development more affordable.
On the Citizens United vs. FEC ruling: Quinn has signed the pledge to overturn Citizens United and get dark money out of politics, so that politicians can no longer be bought and campaigns no longer accept the flood of shadowy corporate-group money that has put our elections up for sale.
On supporting Native people: Native people need to be at the table when discussing how CD8 will move forward, and they have far too often been left out of conversations about our future. Quinn will work with tribes to ensure they have sovereignty over their lands and clean, safe water. She will fight to fund quality education, healthcare, and housing on reservations, as required by the treaties between the tribes and the U.S. Government.
On unions: Unions are crucial to protecting workers’ rights, and Quinn is a fierce union advocate. She has vowed to always side with union members over corporate executives, to oppose “right to work” legislation, and to help strengthen collective bargaining power.
On farming: The corporate takeover and consolidation of family farms must be reversed. Quinn will prioritize looking into antitrust suits against Big Agriculture and will support initiatives to make local farming more profitable, invest directly in local farms, and help farmers combat climate change by supporting sustainable practices.
With so much at stake in this election that will directly affect the fate of our district, state, nation, and world for decades to come, the Cook County DFL encourages voters to support Quinn Nystrom as a champion for CD8, and to vote early and vote blue up and down the ballot.
