Cook County delegates Marcie McIntire, Gregg Westigard, and Denny FitzPatrick attended the DFL 8th Congressional District Convention in Eveleth on Saturday, May 7. There were 143 delegates in attendance from across the district.
The new CD8 district boundaries cover a large part of northeastern Minnesota. CD8 is home to 675,929 residents, and now incorporates all seven Anishinaabe lands, including White Earth and Red Lake to the west. After more than 100 years of being divided, the tribes asked the state courts to unite them in redistricting.
Governor Walz and Attorney General Ellison addressed the convention by live video. Jennifer Schultz was unanimously endorsed as the CD8 DFL congressional candidate to challenge Rep. Pete Stauber (R-MN).
