Despite having the highest vaccination rate for COVID-19 in Minnesota, Cook County is still experiencing cases of the coronavirus.
Between April 15 and April 22 the county received notice of six new cases: three women in their 20s, two men in their 40s, and one man in his 50s were diagnosed with COVID-19.
That brings the number of diagnosed COVID-19 cases to 152 since the start of the pandemic.
During the first week of April, Cook County Public Health was notified that the more contagious B117 SARS-CoV-2 variant of COVID-19 was in Cook County. The B117 strain is 50 percent more transmissible, passing from one person to the next more easily than the original strain. An article published March 29 from the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy says, “COVID-19 survivors and those vaccinated against coronavirus appear able to fight off infection with the B117 SARS-CoV-2 variant…”
Community vaccinations are open to people ages 16 and up. Registration for shots is done on Monday mornings.
