The Cook County Community Fund, an affiliate fund of the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation, has granted more than $7,000 to non-profit organizations in Cook County for 2010. Since being established in 2003, the Cook County Community Fund has awarded over $28,000 in grants to the Cook County Region.
Recipients include the Cook County Coalition of Lake Associations, $500 for citizen workshops; Cook County Higher Education, $1,000 for a guest lecture series; Grand Marais Art Inc., $1,500 for a Kids Art program; Just Kids Dental Health, $1,000 for Cook County school based dental clinics; North Shore Collaborative, $1,000 for learning opportunities through stories; North Shore Health Care Foundation, $800 for care partners patient and family educational materials; North Shore Music Association, $500 for the Brass Messengers at the Fisherman’s Picnic; Sugarloaf: The North Shore Stewardship Association, $800 for Summer Sensations at Sugarloaf Cove.
TheDuluth Superior Area Community Foundation promotes private giving for the public good. The Community Foundation is a permanent community endowment, built by gifts from hundreds of individuals and organizations. Guided by a 13-member board of volunteer civic leaders, the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations and to individuals for scholarships and provides leadership on important community initiatives in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.
Since its inception in 1983, it has distributed over $33 million and currently holds over 290 different funds, each with its own charitable purpose.
