The Cook County ATV Club held its riding season kick-off event on Saturday, June 16. This year’s event was extra special as the ATV Club recently celebrated its 10th anniversary of advocating for all-terrain vehicle (ATV) enthusiasts in Cook County.

The event included a barbeque lunch, a silent auction and drawings, a brief business meeting and board elections, but the highlight of the day was a scenic ATV ride.

The Cook County ATV Club received special authorization from the U.S. Forest Service and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for an approximately 30-mile loop ride on the C.J. Ramstad State Trail and Bally Creek Road. More than a dozen people took the opportunity to see the scenic route via ATV. There were riders and passengers ranging from 20 months old to 78 years old, riding a variety of ATVs and side-by-side machines. Although a downpour hit toward the end of the ride, everyone had rain gear along and no one minded getting a little wet.

After enjoying the ride and the barbecue, cooked up by Club President Mickey Brazell, election results were tallied. Elected to the board were incumbents Mickey Brazell and Gene Lashinski, Gary Siesennop and Chuck Bolinger. Other board members are Rhonda Silence, Vilnis Neilands and Elizabeth Perry.

Appreciation was expressed to outgoing board member John McClure for his years of service to the ATV Club. McClure is a founding member of the Cook County club.

Anyone who missed the kick-off event, but would like to renew his or her membership may do so by printing out a membership form on-line at www.ATV.rideupnorth.com.
