Cook County Activists protest in support of protecting the Mueller Investigation



In the wake of President Donald Trump demanding and accepting U.S Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ resignation a group of concerned Cook County citizens gathered at the courthouse on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. to share their concern, as one of the protesters stated, “about democracy and the rule of law, to hold Trump accountable, and to protect the Mueller investigation.” Across the country over 100 organizations met at 5 p.m. that same Thursday to launch a nationwide rapid response rally to protest the president’s decision. Activists in Cook County will join a nationwide protest in support of protecting Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the Russian interference in the 2016 election. The protests come in response to President Trump installing longtime ally Matthew Whitaker as Acting Attorney General, taking over oversight of the Mueller investigation from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. The activists will demand that Whitaker recuse himself given his conflicts of interest and previous statements attacking the investigation.

The protests come just one day after congressional Democrats won back control of the U.S. House on a promise to investigate the Trump administration and President Trump fired Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
