Thinking about Thanksgiving I wanted to say how impressed I am by our community!
As someone who was born and raised in Grand Marais and decided to come back as an adult after more than 10 years away I know I decided to return to Grand Marais for a reason. Cook County is unique…it is special and I feel incredibly lucky to live here!
This community is rich in history, talented artists, dreamers, entrepreneurs (especially women entrepreneurs), volunteers, foodies, adventurers, community oriented organizations, family businesses, and big thinkers.
I am so proud of those in Cook County (our local businesses especially) who help give to our numerous nonprofits, charities, scholarships, civic groups, and those who are in need in our community. I am also overwhelmed by the generosity of volunteers and donors. After personally being involved in helping with some of these events and groups I know we could not do it without all of your participation and support.
I am employed serving both our locals as well as our tourists. I think I have the best of both worlds. Our locals are a fiery breed of people who find ways to be joyful even on the chilliest of days and our tourists remind me when I forget that Cook County should not be taken for granted…that people pay and travel far distances to spend just a week on our shore or up the trail.
Yes, there might be things to grumble about at times (Who doesn’t love a good grumble here or there…isn’t that why reading these letters to the editor are usually so amusing?) but I can’t help but tell you how much my heart is warmed and proud of our Cook County giving spirit!
Thank you for all you do to make Cook County awesome!
