Our building renovations have finally begun and are progressing nicely. Smith Construction is doing the work and they are doing a great job. At the time of this writing, we are in the middle of some monsoon rains, so no construction work is being done today.

However, over half of the new windows are installed. The old siding has been torn off and new exterior insulation and siding are in the process of being put up. Stop by and check out our energy-saving improvements—visit and join us for coffee!

Remember our full meals daily. Each day Ann Kiral prepares meals that include a main dish, veggies, dessert and milk. Lunches are served daily at noon and are just $3.50 for seniors 60 years and older. Folks under 60 are welcome to join us for a homemade hot lunch any time; the cost for less than 60 years is $6.50. All reservations must be called in by no later than 9:30 a.m. the day of the meal at 387-2660. Lunch time at the Senior Center is a great opportunity to get out and enjoy a good meal and visit with some old friend or make some new ones. Card games usually follow lunch daily.

Meals on Wheels are the same great meals and are available for delivery Monday – Friday.

Coming up in July are some great activities, including a Mystery Trip. Are you adventurous? Do you enjoy surprises or just love getting out and about in our beautiful county? Then, join us for a fun Mystery Trip.

You must guess where you are going! Clue No. 1 is: You may order fish for lunch.

Sign up and pay for your trip and you will then receive another clue. Enter the contest to win a free ticket on the mystery trip, including your lunch! This trip will include at least three Mystery Stops and a lunch stop. The cost is just $5.00 per person for transportation from the Senior Center. Lunch is at your own cost ($10 – $12 should be sufficient)— unless you win the mystery trip contest—then it is free!

This trip is funded in part by travel donations made by our Cook County Council on Aging Board Member Warren Anderson.

Also coming up are two Grand Portage Casino Express trips—Thursday evening, July 12 and Monday, July 30. On the Monday trips, the Casino Express leaves the Senior Center at 9:45 a.m. and returns at approximately 3:30 p.m. The transportation is free! Everyone age 50 and older will receive $10 in free slot play and $5 off a lunch entreé in the restaurant.

The Thursday evening trip leaves the Senior Center at 5:15 p.m. All ladies receive $10 and men $5 in free slot play. All ladies may participate in the Free Slot Tournament and register to win the 9:30 p.m. drawing for $100 in free slot play. It’s a lot of fun! The express returns to the Senior Center at approximately 10:30 p.m.
