Constitution offers freedom of, not from religion

Response to Geri Jensen letter of 24 July 2010:

To live with facts without faith, how very sad. Where do atheists get their ethics? When things fall apart where do you get your strength? The facts of science seem to change frequently, while belief in God and Jesus Christ has remained for hundreds of years.

Thebelief you choose to ridicule has changed millions of lives over many years, this is a fact! It has caused people to give their lives to help those less fortunate. When atheists manage to remove religion from the United States this world ceases to be awesome because it means the end of faith, hope and charity and the beginning of each person or country doing its own thing.

I wonder, why does the fact I hold such beliefs anger you so? Because I believe in God, Heaven and Hell I want everyone to have the chance to make their choice. However, I have no desire to insist that you believe.

Remember, the Constitution states “freedom of
religion,” not “freedom from
religion.” You have the right to be an atheist but not to keep me from preaching or practicing my religion especially since this country was founded on Christian principles.

When ethics and morals are not based on something more than individual beliefs trouble comes.
