Congressman Pete Stauber has two opponents

Incumbent Republican Congressman Pete Stauber of Hermantown is being challenged by two Democratic-Farmer-Labor candidates.

Jennifer Schultz DFLDuluth, who is State House District 7A Rep. has announced that she is not running for a fifth term in the Minnesota legislature and will instead run against Stauber.

Ernest Joseph Opprgaard lll, of Bemidji, originally was running as a 7th Congressional District candidate but was bumped into the 8th District race after redistricting.

Schultz is a Labovitz School of Business and Economics professor at the University of Minnesota Duluth. She holds a doctorate degree in economics.

On his Facebook page Ernest writes, “I am running for Minnesota Congressional District 8. For far too long a corporate establishment candidate has represented the labor class here in one of Minnesota’s largest congressional districts. Minnesota Congressional District 8 needs a politician that is going to represent farmers, landowners, tribal nations, labor class, and the people! Our populace demands for a populist of the people candidate, and I am just that person.”

Representative Jennifer Schultz filed papers to run for the U.S. House 8th District seat with the Federal Election Commission on March 25.

Theresa Lastovich, DFL from Chisholm, entered the race in December and left the race in February.
