During the month of May, nominations were sought for the Move It! award. The Sawtooth Mountain Clinic, the Cook County Senior Center and the Cook County News- Herald joined forces to get community members thinking about the people who inspire others to move. Organizers wanted to highlight one youth, one adult, and one senior. This week we are featuring our adult winning nominee, Yvonne Mills.
Mills was nominated by Debbie Benedict who wrote, “As I was driving up the hill to the recycling center to drop off my collection of plastics, cans, bottles and paper, a very bizarre silhouette appeared before me.
“It appeared to be about nine feet tall and was carrying paper bags.
“As I pulled alongside this creature, I gave a shout of recognition. It was Yvonne Mills, recycling in a very earthfriendly way.
“She was carrying a backpack loaded with folded cardboard boxes and paper bags loaded with cans and bottles. No carbon was used to turn these products in for recycling, she did it all on her own power.
“Kudos to Yvonne for being a great example for all of us to ‘Move It!’” wrote Benedict.
Yvonne receives a $40 gift certificate to a local business and Debbie receives a $20 gift certificate for nominating her.
Marin Webb of Moving Matters added, “We want to thank each person that took the time to nominate these special individuals. And thank you to all the nominees that make that extra effort to move it in their daily lives. Be sure to congratulate these folks when you see them.”
