Once again in May, nominations were sought for a community Move It! award. The Sawtooth Mountain Clinic, the Cook County Senior Center and the Cook County News- Herald asked community members to think about the people who inspire others to move. Last week we announced the winners. We’re following up with a little more information about the people who motivate others to Move It!

Winning in the adult category was Amanda Anderson of Grand Marais, who received kudos from Ashley Green and Kristin Wharton.

Wharton wrote, “I’d like to nominate Amanda Anderson. I think it is awesome and inspiring that a busy mom of three trained for and ran a half marathon and also is a dancer. She was so graceful and beautiful in the Breakthrough performance.

“What an inspiration to other moms!” said Wharton.

In the youth category the winner is Levi Rankin of Grand Portage, nominated by neighbor, Amber Pfeil. In her nomination, Pfeil wrote, “My neighbor, Levi Rankin, age 9, faithfully wears a bike helmet and that is inspiring to me. I did not grow up using a bike helmet, so prioritizing helmet use has been difficult. Levi is a great role model. It’s great to see kids in our community biking safely.”

Last week the News-

Herald shared the winner elected from the entries in the senior category, Ginny Cooley of

Tofte, who was nominated by Caroline Wood.

The winners each receive a $40 gift certificate to a local business. The person who nominated them is also a winner, receiving a $20 gift certificate.

Funding for the Move It! Awards is provided in part by the Center for Prevention at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic, Cook County News-Herald, and the Cook County Senior Center.
