Congratulations to all the sons and daughters who entered the Northern HiLites and Essential Touch Massage Mother’s Day Essay Contest. They made the judges’ job very difficult!

Three judges were given copies of the contest entries, with names and identifying information removed. After a great deal of deliberation, each judge made a selection. The judges selected the essay written by Rheanna Hommerding for her mom, Lori Hommerding. Rheanna’s essay is on the right.

In addition to a touching essay from her daughter, Lori receives an amazing pampering package that includes hair styling from Northern HiLites; a massage from Essential Touch; flowers from Terra Bella Floral; and gift certificates for a dining and shopping spree from Lake Superior Trading Post, Johnson’s Big Dollar, Blue Water Café, Stone Harbor Wilderness Supply, Cook County Whole Foods Co-op, Joy and Company, Joynes Ben Franklin, Harbor House Grille, Gunflint Mercantile, and Java Moose.

So proud of my mother

Rheanna Hommerding

I don’t think there are nearly enough
words to describe my incredible mother,
let alone, 200.
I think anyone would agree that she is one
of the most caring, thoughtful and selfless
individuals they know. When I was 12 my
mother got sober from alcohol and at that
time I had no idea what a huge impact
this would not only make on my life, but
on the lives of everyone around her.
Not only did she overcome her addiction
to alcohol, but she also went to school so
she could help others in the community
with addiction. She has been a great
friend and sponsor to many. She
always has a positive outlook and she is
constantly lending a hand to those who
need it.
One person in my life who has needed it
the most is my foster sister. My Mother
made the selfless decision to help this
child and now she has a loving family
to call her own. It brings me to tears
sometimes to think about the amount of
love one person can have in their heart
for so many people.
I am so proud to call this woman my
mother; her name is Lori Hommerding.
