Confused about political caucuses?

The DFL Cook County Organizing Unit is presenting Everything you wanted to know about caucuses, but were afraid to ask on Saturday, January 30 at the Cook County Senior Center, starting at 9 a.m. Although this event is sponsored by the local DFL, anyone wanting to learn more about the political caucus process is encouraged to attend.

Participants will watch an informative DVD and Joe Radinovich, campaign manager for Congressman Rick Nolan will be on hand to answer your questions.

Organizer Christina Krauz said one of the reasons for the additional training this year is because the Cook County DFL is changing the format for its caucuses. For more years than anyone can count, precinct caucuses have been held at a central location, such as the Arrowhead Center for the Arts. Various precincts gathered in different areas of the building.

For the Tuesday, March 4, 2016 DFL caucuses, participants will be able to gather closer to home at four different locations. Attendees will meet at the Schaap Community Center on the Gunflint Trail, the Hovland Town Hall, the Birch Grove Community Center and at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts in Grand Marais.

The conveners (the person who facilitates the caucus for each location) are John Bottger for the Gunflint Trail; Cook County DFL Secretary Jerry Hiniker for the Hovland precincts; Bill Hansen for the West End; and Cook County DFL Chair Anton Moody.

The Cook County Republican party has not yet announced its caucus information, but precinct caucuses are held throughout the state for all parties on March 1.

“We encourage both ‘old timers’ and those who have never been to a caucus to attend this training,” said Krauz.
