I want to express and share my concern regarding one of our Cook County Commissioners, Heidi Doo-Kirk. She happens to be the commissioner who represents me, as I live in District Four.
In the not too distant past, Heidi made a motion to approve the B2B route. Regardless of which side of this issue you are on, you should be concerned about that motion she made. She is the secretary for Tread- Lightly, an organization that supports establishing the B2B in Cook County. Due to her relationship with Tread- Lightly, she should recuse herself from any vote regarding the B2B. She needs to disqualify herself to avoid a conflict of interest.
Having served on professional organizations in the past, I have experienced individuals recusing themselves from voting to avoid a conflict of interest. It is the ethical choice one must make as a leader.
It is most troubling that this has not been discussed, let alone recognized at our County Board or Committee of the Whole Meetings. Heidi is my representative, and the representative for many, yet she has chosen to act in an unethical manner. This is not what we expect from our elected officials.
