After reading Dick and Bonnie Swanson’s letter to the editor in the Feb. 9 issue, I have to make a few replies, since I was one of the first letters to the editor about County Attorney Tim Scannell. I want them to know that my feelings have nothing to do with revenge.
I have a problem with him being a public elected official and acting the way he has.
Some of his own alleged statements according to the December 4, 2012 harassment restraining order condemn him, such as: “She’s 17, she can make her own decisions, it’s not like she’s 11 or 14….”
Regarding his alleged statement that the relationship was not about sex, since he could get it anywhere. What kind of married man replies like that?
According to the restraining order, he stated his relationship with this girl was different than the one he prosecuted (and got shot after) because he “wasn’t picking [the girl] up in the alley behind Holiday.”
Does that mean it was going on while he was prosecuting someone else? Is that why his lawyers are so against the order for all his files, emails, etc. at the courthouse?
I do feel sorry for his relatives and he does have to make amends to them. However, I think it is way too late for the voters. We don’t trust him anymore—in court or out. Let’s face it, given his behavior, how can you trust him at all?
