The responses of the county commissioner District 4 candidates to the question about biomass energy in last week’s News-Herald revealed several common misconceptions about biomass energy and, more importantly, a general lack of awareness about the biomass energy feasibility study currently under way.
Biomass energy could be a significant economic and environmental opportunity for Grand Marais and Cook County. It is crucial that the candidates, and the public at large, make an attempt to base their opinions on good information.
Fortunately, we will have an excellent opportunity to do just that as the results of the Phase II Biomass Feasibility Study come in this fall. In addition, the Phase I Study and other biomass information is posted now at the Cook County Local Energy Project’s website: www.cookcountylep.org.
We look forward to a lively and informed community discussion about biomass energy.
