The Senior Center had a very successful spaghetti dinner fundraiser during the Dragon Boat celebration on Friday, July 26. The dinner was a lot of fun and quite a success! We served over 100 hungry folks and raised approximately $900 for the Senior Center.

We would like to thank everyone who attended. A very special thanks you to all of our wonderful volunteers. We are lucky to live in such a wonderful community. This dinner was a great example of our community coming together to share and raise money to help support our elders in their activities and needs.

Individual computer training continues

One of those needs is individual computer training, which continues to be offered on Mondays in August, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Appointments of 30 – 60 minutes are available. Call the Senior Center to reserve a time with the instructors who are students from Cook County Middle School. It’s part of the Incredible Exchange program.

The “Banjo Man” in concert

Mike Turner, the “Banjo Man,” will perform at the center on Wednesday, August 7 at 12:30 p.m. Turner played for us last August here at the Senior Center. He treated us to a wonderful show. For those who were lucky to have attended and enjoyed last year’s show, come again and bring some friends! For those of you who have not yet heard Mike perform, you won’t want to miss it!

Mike has been performing for over 25 years nationally and internationally on TV and radio and has recorded over 20 albums of his music in Nashville, Tenn.

He is a singer/songwriter, musician, humorist and entertainer extraordinaire and is a virtuoso on the acoustic guitar and 5-string banjo.

All ages are welcome! This is a free concert. Donations are welcome and encouraged. Mike will have CDs available for sale.

More trips!

There will be another Mystery Trip in August. In July the Senior Center traveled to Schroeder to the Cross River Heritage Center and then enjoyed lunch at Lockport Store in Lutsen. Also coming up are three casino trips— August 6, 13 and 27. For more information or for registration of any of these upcoming trips, stop in or call the Senior Center at (218) 387-2660.
