Community should accept county attorney’s apology

As one more person who was not witness to the Tim Scannell/ student encounter and who knows neither party, I will venture an opinion since others have, and will paint the view with this possibility: What if Attorney Scannell was feeling emotional and vulnerable to tragedy since he recently had closely escaped a violent death, and what if the young woman felt sympathy and tenderness to this man, a family friend? Affection can easily enter this picture. Some may see predation even without a pattern of such.

Yes, if Mr. Scannell made crude defensive remarks, remember that one can succumb to sarcasm when frustrated with accusations which seem absurd. Not cool! But really, no explanation of indiscretion would really satisfy all in the community, all of us who were not witness but have an opinion.

Apparently Mr. Scannell has served us well as county attorney in the past. Whether or not he is re-elected in the next election is another chapter, but until then could we accept his apology and resume support so that he may better focus on the work he does for us? This should also allow the young woman to concentrate on her school and activities without community scrutiny. I’ll bet they are both wiser. Let us in the community not be part of the problem. Let us forgive now.
