Over the past few years, residents Cook County have noticed an increase in tourism, as well as new residents, moving to the area and we all know why people come here. It is beautiful, it is wild, and it is precious. But this increase in “loving this area” has been presenting many challenges in preserving and protecting these invaluable natural resources.

Cook County Coalition of Lake Associations (CCCoLA) is an action-oriented independent organization made up of Cook County Lake and Road Associations. It serves as an umbrella group that brings these associations together to focus on issues of common interest such as promoting and implementing sound and responsible lake and shoreland management practices.

CCCoLA will be sponsoring a Land and Water Use Workshop on June 9th, 9:00-11:00 a.m., Cook County Community Center, Community Room. We invite you to come and hear up-to-date information regarding the efforts to protect the pristine lakes and forests of Cook County and learn what you can do to help with these protection efforts. The following groups/individuals will be presenting and available for your questions: County Sheriff, Soil and Water, Land Services, Visit Cook County, and the DNR. They will provide information regarding their role, and rules and regulations that pertain to their services that directly involve oversight of the Land and Water of Cook County. In addition, we are inviting local Realtor and Rental agencies as they also have a role in providing information to their prospective clients with respect to land and water use.

CCCoLA meets in the summer months of June through September on the second Friday from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. You are welcome to join to learn more about this networking of lake associations. We have several meeting sites as the county stretches out a bit. Our first meeting in June is at Mid-Trail off the Gunflint Trail.
