Community groups benefit from November 12 “Give to the Max Day”

The nonprofits of Cook County are joining many organizations throughout the state to ask Minnesotans to leverage charitable donations by taking part in “Give to the Max Day” on Thursday, November 12. GiveMN.org makes it fun and easy to give to a variety of causes.

Money donated to participating nonprofits directly benefits those organizations and in many cases, such as for the Cook County Historical Society, is matched by Give to the Max Day donors. The Historical Society is attempting to raise funds to match a remaining $19,975 of a $20,000 matching grant.

There are dozens of Cook County organizations to consider such as Oral Health Care for Children, the Schroeder Historical Society, the Norpine Trail Association of Lutsen, the Hovland Volunteer Fire Department, the Birch Grove Community School and the Birch Grove Foundation in Tofte, the Gunflint Trail Historical Society, the Cook County Schools Education Foundation and Cook County Higher Education— and many more.

GiveMN offers incentives to encourage donor participation. Cook County community members can support their favorite local nonprofits and schools for an opportunity to win prize grants up to $10,000 as top donation earners.

Participating organizations are also eligible for “Golden Ticket” prize grants—hourly drawings to add $1,000 to a donor’s gift, randomly selected from donors who gave during each hour of the event. Birch Grove Community School in Tofte was the lucky winner of a “Golden Ticket” in 2014.

One donor will be drawn each evening for a supersized Golden Ticket to have $10,000 added to their donations.

Give to the Max Day was launched in 2009 by the Minnesota Community Foundation. Since its inception, $125 million has been raised for nonprofits and schools. In 2014, GiveMN raised more than $18 million in 24 hours during its Give to the Max Day celebration.
