Community Fund sets goal for endowment fund

The Cook County Community Fund is a community resource dedicated to building a permanent endowment to support nonprofits in the Cook County. Founded in 2003, its creators felt a community fund was the best way to invest in our community’s future, today.

Since inception, the Cook County Community Fund has worked with seven nonprofits to create long-term endowments under our Family of Funds. This past year, the Daniel Patrick Riley Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to assist Cook County graduates.

Annually, we support our local nonprofits through grant making. This year we granted $11,470 to six deserving nonprofits, funding youth programs, educational speakers and a support group, among others.

We are also taking an active leadership role in building community. We’ve partnered with Northern Wilds Media, Inc. to publish a free directory of Cook County nonprofits so donors and volunteers can easily connect with local groups.

We are proud of this work, but the need in our community still exists. In 2011, we’ve set an ambitious goal of raising $30,000 for the endowment fund. The earnings from these dollars go directly back into supporting the community we love, in perpetuity.

I challenge everyone in this community to give what they can. Collectively, we can reach our goal—a goal that is focused on ensuring this community continues to thrive today and tomorrow.
