What will it mean to have an Energy Plan for Cook County and Grand Marais? Will it result in cheaper, cleaner, more reliable energy in the future? Or will it mean more governmental regulation? The answer maybe influenced by who shows up to participate in the energy planning process that is now underway.
In particular, the Cook County Energy Plan Committee is holding two “Energy Summit” public meetings in order to provide an update on the Energy Plan’s progress, and to gather public input. The first Energy Summit will be held at the Tofte Town Hall at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 25. The second will be held at North House Folk School on Thursday, May 26 at 7 p.m.
Initial results from the Community Energy Survey now being conducted indicate that 87.5 percent of Cook County respondents favor governmental action to reduce energy use and implement renewable energy; 93.7 percent are in favor of moving toward more use of renewable energy such as wind, solar, and biomass.
The Energy Plan Committee is committed to hearing all voices in the community. Don Grant, local coordinator for the projects says, “the more points of view represented, the more effective our Energy Plan will be.”
Surveys will be available at the Energy Summits and on-line at cookcountylep.org.
