Community Ed sponsors basket-making classes

Baskets make wonderful Christmas gifts, and Cook County Community Education is inviting community members to learn to make their own baskets during two upcoming classes.

In the first course, students will make a Penobscot Tote, a sturdy tote that serves well at the grocery store or the mall. The intermediate level class will be held Saturday, November 14, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Cook County High School. Class fee is $28, plus a $35 material fee. Class instructor will be Jane Shinners.

Bread baskets will be the focus of a Wednesday, November 18 class taught by Shinners. Shinners said the basket is simple to make and is useful for breads and fruits. Students will choose the color combinations and even add a little birch bark if desired to create a beginner level basket.

The class will be held at the high school from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. There is a $15 class fee, plus a $15 material fee.

To register call Community Education at 218-387-2000.
