Community can’t afford community center

No wonder Superintendent Schwarz wants the tentative community center attached to the school—it helps her budget by removing hundreds of thousands of dollars in expenses for hazardous waste removal, permits, consulting fees, demolition, repairs, site development, landscaping, and more.

In the March 24, 2012 article Attach community center to School? Pros, cons and costs considered, I read, “deteriorating…be demolished,” “ground water issues,” “asbestos,” “replace ceiling tiles,” “silo and fuel oil tank to be removed.”

Schwarz’s pot of gold is to hand over these expenses to the county in the name of the bloated community center project.

Thus far the only winner in the iffy community center project has been ORB Management, the consultants who have made thousands of dollars from all the various site evaluations and consultations and this sure looks like another opening for them to take away more of the county’s 1% monies.

It’s time to permanently put the community center project to rest as this is a project that the community and the county cannot afford.
