The annual fundraiser for community hunger programs. Thursday, November 12 in the lower level of the St. John’s Catholic Church: lunch from 11 – 1 p.m. and dinner from 5 – 7 p.m. Event includes a soup meal, handmade bowl and pendant sale, silent auction, and bake sale.

Veterans Day Promotions at the Y

Invite a Veteran or Military Family to visit the YMCA! In honor of Veterans Day, the YMCA is welcoming Veterans and Military Families to visit the Y for free all week long from Monday, November 9 to Sunday, November 15. Veterans can begin their membership at the Y for $0 enrollment all year long. Also, any active military families can receive a 20 percent discount on membership with a military ID. It’s easy to sign up at the Member Service Desk. We thank all the veterans and their families in our community for their service and sacrifice for our country.

The Grand Marais Garden Club

Will meet at 10 a.m. on November 9 at the Senior Center. There will be a discussion of the successes and failures of the 2015 growing season facilitated by Jan Attridge and the Program Committee. Members will also have the opportunity to sign up for the holiday luncheon.

Cook County Ruby’s Pantry

Cook County Ruby’s Pantry is a surplus food distribution program. New time 5:00-6:30 p.m. Every second Tuesday of the month. (Nov. 10, Dec. 8). Elementary school parking. $20 cash only per share – buy more shares as you want, no financial qualifications. Bring a laundry basket and a cooler to bring home frozen items. Two lines for less waiting. Volunteers needed and can get shares too. Contact lbspaulding@boreal.org to volunteer or with questions. Focus Group Session at the Y

The Y is planning a focus group session for families with Kids Club aged children on November 13 at 5:30 p.m. We hope that all can attend and give input on hours, space, needs, etc. so we can boost attendance and make it a better service for our members. We hope this focus group will help determine what are the most helpful times to offer Kids Club. There will be a free parent’s night out during the focus group and after, so if you’d like to take advantage, you can leave the Y for a few hours to go out with friends or a spouse after!

Sawtooth Mountain Clinic Foot Care Clinic

The Sawtooth Mountain Clinic and Cook County Department of Public Health & Human Services offer their Foot Care Clinic at the Grand Marais Senior Center on the third Tuesday of each month, from 9 to 11 a.m. First come, first served. The cost is $10. Bring your own soap, towel, and bucket to soak your feet.

Blood Pressure and Glucose Screening

The Sawtooth Mountain Clinic and Cook County Department of Public Health & Human Services will be offering Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar screenings on December 1, Cook County Whole Foods Co-op from 9:15- 10:15 a.m. and at the Senior Center from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Blood pressures are free and blood sugars cost $3.
