It’s Here, Now What?

As broadband becomes more ubiquitous it begs a conversation around applications, what can we do with this technology? Cook County Broadband Commission is hosting a Community Conversation to gather ideas from the community – June 2, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Birch Grove in Tofte and June 3, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Cook County Community Center.

Events at Drury Lane Books

Saturday, June 6, 11 a.m.: The Muffin Man telling stories for young children. Tuesday, June 2, 5 p.m.: Full Moon Reading featuring Erin Altemus outside on the lakeshore. Saturday, June 6, 5 p.m.: Writer’s Salon with poet Sharon Chmielarz reading from Visibility: Ten Miles, a Prairie Memoir in Photography and Poetry.

Cook County Ruby’s Pantry

Will be open 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. at the high school cafeteria. Next distributions will be 2nd Tuesdays— June 9, July 14 and August 11­— same time, same place. Cost is $20 (cash only) per share and you may buy more than one share. Program is not income based so anyone can participate. Bring laundry baskets, coolers or boxes to carry food home. Sawtooth Mountain Clinic Foot Care Clinic

The Sawtooth Mountain Clinic and Cook County Department of Public Health & Human Services offer their Foot Care Clinic at the Grand Marais Senior Center on the third Tuesday of each month, from 9 to 11 a.m. First come, first served. The cost is $10. Bring your own soap, towel, and bucket to soak your feet.

Blood Pressure and Glucose Screening

The Sawtooth Mountain Clinic and Cook County Department of Public Health & Human Services will be offering Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar screenings on June 2 at Chicago Bay Marketplace 8:00-9:00 a.m. and at the Senior Center from 10:30- 11:30 a.m. Blood pressures are free and blood sugars cost $3.
