Alzheimer’s and other dementias

A community forum, April 28, 4- 6 p.m., Corcoran Classroom, lower level of the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic. Featured speaker is Dr. Terry Barclay, PhD, LP, director of neuropsychology at HealthPartners and Regions Hospital in St. Paul. There will also be a panel discussion with local professionals who work with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Poetry at the Library

Children’s author Laura Purdie Salas will be at the library April 29, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. for an interactive celebration of reading and poetry. All ages are welcome!

Cook County Community Center Arena Sale

Saturday, May 16 from 9:00 a.m. until noon. No early birds! If you want to sell items, the cost for two tables and space is $15. Please call Diane at 387-3015 to reserve your space.

Apple Growing Workshop with Cindy Hale

Will take place on Sat., May 2 at the CC Community Center from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Topics covered: Intensive apple growing systems for dwarf apple trees and integrated pest management. Cost is $10. We will also be potting up newly grafted apple trees. Please pre-register by calling the CC Extension office at 218-387-3015 so we know how many people to plan for. Thank you!

Vegetable Growing Workshops

Beginning Vegetable Growing Workshop, Monday, April 27. Beginning Vegetable Growing Workshop in Containers, Tuesday, April 28. Beginning Vegetable Growing Workshop in Straw Bales, Wednesday, April 29. All workshops will be held at the Cook County Community Center from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. and are free and informal. Cook County Ruby’s Pantry

Cook County Ruby’s Pantry is starting Thursday, May 14, 4-6 p.m. at the high school cafeteria. Next distributions will be 2nd Tuesdays: June 9, July 14 and August 11; same time same place. Cost is $20 per share and you may buy more than one share. Program is not income based so anyone can participate. Bring laundry baskets, coolers or boxes to carry food home. Friday Madness at the Y

School aged childcare on days that students do not have school. Day includes swimming, crafts, gym games and outdoor play. $30/child.

Sawtooth Mountain Clinic Foot Care Clinic

The Sawtooth Mountain Clinic and Cook County Department of Public Health & Human Services offer their Foot Care Clinic at the Grand Marais Senior Center on the third Tuesday of each month, from 9 to 11 a.m. First come, first served. The cost is $10. Bring your own soap, towel, and bucket to soak your feet.

Blood Pressure and Glucose Screening

The Sawtooth Mountain Clinic and Cook County Department of Public Health & Human Services will be offering Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar screenings on May 5 at the Cook County Family YMCA from 9:15-10:15 a.m. and at the Senior Center from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Blood pressures are free and blood sugars cost $3.
