“Small Talk” on Mineral Center
Nelda Westerlind of Grand Marais will be giving a
Cook County Historical Society “Small Talk” about the
once thriving community of Mineral Center on May 18
at 10 a.m. at the Johnson Heritage Post.

Sarah Stonich at Grand Marais Public Library
Sarah Stonich, author of internationally acclaimed
novels These Granite Islands, The Ice Chorus, Shelter
and her much-anticipated Vacationland, will be at the
Grand Marais Public Library Monday, May 20, 3:00
p.m. This event is funded in part with money from
Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

River People:
North Shore Stream Stewardship Conference
May 18, 10-4 Wolf Ridge ELC—If you care about the
North Shore and its rivers, join Lieutenant Governor
Yvonne Prettner Solon at this workshop. Learn
what makes our rivers unique and how to advocate
for stream restoration. RSVP by May 14 by calling

I.S.D. 166 Regular School Board Meeting
The School Board of I.S.D. 166 will meet for a Regular
Board Meeting Thursday, May 16, 2013, 5:00 p.m.,
JMCC Conference Room, 101 West 5th Street, Grand
Marais, MN. The board members will be in attendance
at 4:45 p.m. for discussion with community members.

Sawtooth Mountain Clinic Foot Care Clinic
The Sawtooth Mountain Clinic and Cook County
Department of Public Health & Human Services offer
their Foot Care Clinic at the Grand Marais Senior
Center on the third Tuesday of each month, from
9:00-11:00 a.m. First come, first served. The cost is $10.
Bring your own soap, towel, and bucket to soak your
feet.

Blood Pressure and Glucose Screening
The Sawtooth Mountain Clinic and Cook County
Department of Public Health & Human Services
will be offering Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar
screenings on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the Chicago
Bay Marketplace in Hovland from 8:00-9:00 a.m. and
at the Senior Center from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Blood
pressures are free and blood sugars cost $3. For
