Nine lamps will be permanently mounted to the desks at the front of the commissioners’ room. At a cost of $335 each, the purchase will total $3,278.81 including tax.

The CFLs in the ceiling will remain in place, but the ones above where the commissioners sit will not be turned on during county board meetings.

Fixing leaky roof

The board approved an expenditure of $4,800 for repairs to the materials tying the roofline of the original courthouse building to the addition that was put on a few years ago. The maintenance department has battled leaking in the ceilings but had difficulty tracing the source of the problem.

A proposal from The Jamar Company of Duluth states, “Based upon a recent site inspection to gather information for a reroof, we feel another path should be taken prior to scheduling any re-roofing activities. …With a reasonable level of roof maintenance, this roof should still provide a degree of security for roughly an additional 10 years; therefore, we recommend conducting an extensive investigation of the tie-in to the original building and gutter eave of that building. It is our suspicion this area is the cause of your water intrusion issues; however, an extensive amount of work will be required to verify this suspicion.”

Jamar Architectural Division Manager Mark Zielis estimated that figuring out the exact source of the location and doing the repair would take two workers two days. The $4,800 estimate would include materials and expenses and any unused portion would be reimbursed to the county.
