In response to Saturday May 1, 2010 article County considers septic loan fund.
What is Commissioner Fritz Sobanja suggesting when he says, “We’re just doing what we’re being told to do” and “he’d never seen data proving that health problems have actually occurred from septic failures in Cook County”?
Is it that he is uninformed about the environmental impacts of failing septic systems, or that it doesn’t matter so long as data is not available showing people having gotten sick from a failed septic system in Cook County?
To me it’s a lot like the little boy who asks his mother, “Why do we have to wash the dishes again, they’re just going to get dirty again?” Well, Johnny (Fritz), we do it to keep us all healthy.
Commissioner Jan Hall, just what has been done to us that is ridiculous with regards to the Clean Water Act? Who controls us? We collectively are the government, not someone else. When individuals fail to do the right thing, whether it is tending to the maintenance of their septic systems or the aggregate actions of individuals shown to harm others outside their immediate surroundings, that is infringement of our individual rights guaranteed to us in our state and federal constitutions.
I suggest you express your frustrations in a more constructive manner. “They can control us” is inappropriate from an elected official. It adds nothing positive to the discussion. It only adds to the negative dialog so prevalent today.
