The Cook County commissioners approved Marshall Handyman Services to do the bathroom remodel work at the YMCA for $125,987.33.
David Marshall, CEO of Marshall Handyman Services out of Duluth, was the only bidder.
According to the bid documents the bathroom will be 13’-3” x 8’-11” and include interior demolition, removing finishes, concrete slab-on-grade, and existing partitions before rebuilding the room to specs.
According to Cook County Administrator Jeff Cadwell, “The daycare bathroom will serve both the toddler and preschool rooms. There will be two child sized toilets and hand washing sinks. This upgrade will allow the licensing of the toddler/preschool program to increase from 40-60 children.
“Infant daycare is in a separate room and is not affected by this improvement. While the county owns the building and is responsible for the care of the facility, the YMCA did secure $100,000 of grants to offset the majority of the cost of this project.
“The estimate is that construction of the bathroom will cost $100,000 and other mechanical systems including sprinklers and air handlers will cost an additional $25,000 which will be paid by the county out of building maintenance funds.”
