The Grand Marais Playhouse will be holding auditions for Shout! The Mod
Musical
on January 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts. What is Shout
and what sort of cast is needed?
Director Sue Hennessy explains that Shout!
flips through the years like a musical magazine and takes you back to the music, the fashion and the freedom of the ‘60s. She said the “smashing revue” tracks five “groovy gals” as they come of age during those liberating days that made England swing.
The play takes a journey through the infectious and soulful pop anthems and ballads that made household names of stars like Petula Clark, Dusty Springfield and Lulu. Shout!
uses an entertaining mix of letters to an advice columnist, true confessions, quizzes and advertisements as a frame for terrific new arrangements of such chart-topping hits as To
Sir With Love, Downtown, You
Don’t Have to Say You Love Me,
Son of A Preacher Man,
and Goldfinger.
The music, along with eye-popping fashions and psychedelic dances from the ’60s will make you want to throw your head back and Shout!
There are roles for five women ranging from a motherly figure to a naïve young woman, with a delightful mix of personalities in between.
Shout
performance dates are March 4 – 6 and July 15, 17, 21, 23, 29, 31 Aug. 4, 6, 12, 14.
