The Grand Marais Playhouse is excited to be back on stage this summer with the production of “Birthday Club” by Phil Olson. The first community play on stage since summer of 2019! This comedy is the right medicine for our community and visitors as we gather in the shared space of the theater and laugh together! The story of the play is five women who have gathered to celebrate each other’s birthday; to laugh cry, tease and support each other through life’s ups and downs.
The cast of Birthday Club is:
Diane Stoddard as Cheryl, – Married, successful business owner, anal retentive, control issues. Marriage is strained. Stay-at-home husband
Claire Smith as Emily, – High school teacher. Divorced twice. Prolific Tinder dater. Has had lots of “work done.”
Alyssa Hedstrom as Abbie, – Married. Stay at home wife. Easy life. Nice big house, pool, boat.
Amanda Hand as Kathy, – Works in “law enforcement.” Married, four kids. Very tough.
Jaye White as Sarah, – Works for Cheryl. Member of the very strict “Heemish” religion. Wholesome, innocent, naive of all worldly things.
Sue Hennessy, Artistic Director says, “It is a delight to work with such a wonderful cast! We have been laughing since auditions! Although it can be hard to balance the demands of the day and still make it to rehearsal, we are so grateful these women chose to share their time and talent with our community and visitors. Laugh therapy is just what is needed for our community right now!
The Playhouse is very grateful for the support the community has given through the pandemic. This show is an important step forward as we build momentum toward our 50th season celebration in 2022. This and every Playhouse production is a celebration of community collaboration, both on stage and behind the scenes. The Grand Marias Playhouse is as committed as ever to providing high quality theater and educational opportunities to Cook County and its visitors! Please join us! We have a variety of volunteer opportunities for all levels of experience!
