A new event at the 2009 Cook County Fair was the Grand Marais Lion and Lioness Coloring Contest, which was enjoyed by kids, parents, and grandparents alike.
TheLion and Lioness Club set up a coloring station at the fair and kids had a choice of several different versions of lions to color. There were 36 entries, making the job very difficult for the judges. Lioness Lou Goodell reported, “It was very difficult to choose the winners because everyone’s coloring was so special. Theyall deserved a gold star!”
Free balloons and Lioness and Lions Club bookmarkers were handed out to everyone.
This is the first year the Lions and Lioness Clubs have had a booth at the Cook County Fair. “We look forward to the county fair next year and hope to have more activities for children. We hope to see more community members attending,” said Lioness Sandra Hyne. Each winner received a $5 gift card to any Dairy Queen, a first prize ribbon, and a “First Place Winner’s Certificate.”
