Julie Peters earns criminology degree

Julie Peters, daughter of Margaret and the late Kermit Carlsen of Schroeder, graduated with a Master of Arts degree in criminology from the University of Minnesota-Duluth in May.

Julie, her husband Mike, and their daughter Margaret live in Duluth. Julie is a 1978 graduate of Cook County High School.

Tait Sande earns St. Thomas honors

Tait Sande of Grand Marais, a junior, has been named to the University of St. Thomas 2010 spring semester dean’s list. Students must post grade point averages of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale to be named to the dean’s list.

Tait is the son of Steve and Nancy Sande of Grand Marais.

St. Thomas, founded in 1885, is a Catholic, independent, liberal arts university. With a coeducational student body numbering more than 10,000, it is Minnesota’s largest independent college or university. Nearly 1,900 of the university’s undergraduates were named to the spring semester Dean’s List.

St. Scholastica announces dean’s list

The College of St. Scholastica has named five students to its Spring Semester 2010 dean’s list. Students named to the Dean’s List are full-time undergraduates who have attained a gradepoint average of 3.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Named to the dean’s list was Tara Austin of Grand Marais, a sophomore with a major in marketing; Amy James, a senior whose major is nursing: Erin Morris, a senior majoring in exercise physiology; Jessica Nelson, a senior with a nursing major; and Benjamin Peters, a junior majoring in communications.

The College of St. Scholastica has been nationally recognized by U.S. News & World Report magazine for academic excellence and affordability. The college has a 95 percent placement rate for its most recent graduates.
