Petz earns masters in business administration

 

Ryan Petz graduated from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management with a master’s degree in business administration on May 17, 2010.

Ryan is now employed as an associate channel manager at General Mills in Minneapolis. Ryan is president and co-founder of Fulton Beer, a Minneapolis craft brewery founded in June 2009.

Ryan is the son of Ben and Mary Petz of Hovland. He is a 2001 graduate of Cook County High School and a 2005 graduate of St. John’s University.

Caldwell graduates with honors

Laurie Caldwell, formerly of Grand Marais, graduated with honors from Yakima Valley Community College in Yakima, Washington on June 10, 2010. Laurie received her associate degree in applied science, majoring as a medical administrative office assistant.

Laurie was recognized on the president’s list during the winter quarter of 2009, spring quarter of 2010, and the dean’s list during the spring and fall quarters of 2009 and winter quarter of 2010. In addition she is a member of Phi Theta Kappa.

Laurie is now seeking a position with a medical facility in the Yakima area, where she plans to stay. However, to the folks who knew her as their waitress at a local café, Laurie said, “Just goes to show you – you can do anything you set your mind to. Just get out there and try.”

Cochrane graduates Carleton College

Andrew Fitts Cochrane graduated from Carleton College, in Northfield, MN, on June 12, 2010. Andy majored in studio art.

He was also a captain of the Carleton GOP (Gods of Plastic) Ultimate Frisbee team that won the DIII national championships on May 23, for the second year in a row. Andy was named to the 2010 USA Ultimate All-Region 2nd Team.

This summer, Andy is leading canoe trips in northern Ontario as a camp counselor for YMCA Camp Widjiwagan.

He is the son of Tim and Jean Cochrane of Grand Marais. He graduated from Cook County High School in 2006.

Central Lakes College, Brainerd and Staples, Minn., has announced its 2010 spring semester honors lists. Named to the president’s list were Brennan Hawkins of Grand Marais and CoLee Johnson of Hovland.

The president’s list includes students who earned a gradepoint average of 3.75-4.0 while enrolled for at least 12 credits.

The dean’s list includes students who earned a grade-point average of 3.25-3.74.

Central Lakes College is a comprehensive community and technical college in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.

Brennan is the son of Stacey Hawkins and Scott Hawkins of Grand Marais. He is a 2009 graduate of Cook County High School. Brennan also earned his diploma of occupation proficiency in welding and fabrication this spring.

CoLee is the son of Kathi and Rusty Johnson of Hovland. He is also a 2009 graduate of Cook County High School.
