Leif Anderson named to dean’s list

Leif D. Anderson, Lutsen, was selected to University of Minnesota Twin Cities 2018 fall semester dean’s list.

To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must complete 12 or more letter-graded credits while attaining a 3.66 grade point average.

Viren makes dean’s list

Tor Viren, Grand Marais, was named to the St. Olaf College dean’s list for the fall 2018 semester.

The dean’s list recognizes students with a semester grade point average of 3.75 or higher on a 4-point scale.

Tor is majoring in physics and Norwegian. He is the son of Katherine McClure and Chuck Viren of Grand Marais.

Alex Murray named to fall semester dean’s list

Alexander (Alex) Murray, Grand Marais, a senior at Minnesota State Mankato, made the fall Honor’s List (dean’s list) not once, but twice. Alex was named to the academic honors list in Geographic Information Science (Gisc), and in Urban and Regional Studies.

Among 3,334 students, a total of 875 students qualified for the High Honor List by achieving a 4.0 straight “A” average, while 2,461 students earned a 3.5 to 3.99 average to qualify for the Honor List. To qualify for academic honors, undergraduate students must be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours for the semester.

Alex is the son of Tom and Denise Murray of Grand Marais.

Gesch named to dean’s list

Linnea Gesch, Grand Marais, was named to the Gustavus Adolphus College 2018 fall semester dean’s list.

The list comprises students who have earned a 3.7 grade point average (based on a scale in which 4.0 = A) or higher for the semester ending in December 2018.

Gustavus Adolphus College is a private liberal arts college in Saint Peter, Minn. that prepares 2,200 undergraduates for lives of leadership, service, and lifelong learning. The oldest Lutheran college in Minnesota, Gustavus was founded in 1862 by Swedish immigrants and named for Swedish King Gustav II Adolf.

Woerheide graduates New Mexico Highlands University

Jon T. Woerheide graduated summa cum laude from New Mexico Highlands University with a degree in Forestry Management. He is continuing on to get his master’s degree in Environmental Science & Management.

He is a 2001 graduate of CCHS. In the years since graduation, he has obtained his Journeyman and Master Electrician licenses, and became a Blackhawk helicopter pilot, serving in the U.S. Army.

He is the son of Jon Woerheide and Wendi Woerheide, and the grandson of Deborah Woerheide and the late John D. Woerheide.
