Hay and Martinson named to dean’s list at Bethel

Marin Hay, Grand Marais, a senior, was named to the spring 2018 dean’s list at Bethel University, St. Paul, Minnesota.

Marin is the daughter of Mary and John Hay, Schroeder.

Alyssa Martinson, Schroeder, a sophomore at Bethel University in St. Paul, was named to the spring 2018 dean’s list.

Alyssa is the daughter of Bruce and Sheryl Martinson of Schroeder.

The dean’s list honors students who achieve an outstanding scholastic record during a semester with a grade point average of 3.6 or greater.

Bethel University is a leader in Christ-centered higher education with nearly 5,500 students from 48 states and 42 countries enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, seminary, and adult education programs.

Chmelik, Pedersen, Viren named to St. Olaf dean’s list

Carl (Joey) Chmelik, biology, a graduate of Cook County High School, was named to the St. Olaf College dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester.

Carl, from Grand Marais, is the son of Michael and Teresa Chmelik.

Twyla Pedersen, a psychology major, was named to the St. Olaf College dean’s list for the 2018 spring semester.

A graduate of Cook County High School and a resident of Grand Marais, Twyla is the daughter of David Pedersen and Leslie Pedersen.

Tor Viren, who is majoring in physics and Norwegian, was named to the spring semester 2018 dean’s list at St. Olaf College. Tor graduated from Southwest High School. He is the son of Katherine McClure and Chuck Viren, Grand Marais.

The dean’s list recognizes students with a semester grade point average of 3.75 or higher on a 4-point scale.

Lily Gruber-Schulz named Lakehead Thunderwolves’ basketball team captain

Lily Gruber-Schulz was named a captain of the Lakehead Thunderwolves’ women’s basketball team for the 2018/2019 season. The six-foot forward from Grand Marais wears number 11. The Thunderwolves begin varsity play on October 6. Fall play wraps up on December 1 before beginning again on January 4.
