Tyson Smith graduated from the University of Minnesota, College of Liberal Arts in a ceremony at Northrup Memorial Auditorium on May 16, 2010 with a bachelor of arts degree in asian languages and literatures. He has been accepted for admission at William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul. Tyson, pictured here with his sister Summer, attended Cook County High School from kindergarten through ninth grade and completed high school in Andover, MA. Tyson is the son of Scott Smith and Kristine Barton and stepson of Roger Barton.
Craig Edward Georg graduated with a bachelor of arts in mass communication from the University of Tampa on Saturday, May 8, 2010. The 128th commencement of the Florida university was held at the St. Pete Times Forum. The commencement speaker was AMX CEO Rashid Skaf, a 1992 graduate of the university. Skaf gave a powerful speech, advising the Class of 2010 to not set limits on what they could do. Push yourself, he said. Craig graduated with an overall GPA of 3.25. He is currently employed as a broadcast producer at WUSF public radio in Tampa. Craig is the son of Tina Hansen of Grand Marais and Frank Georg of Hopkins, MN.
Corrine Cochrane graduated from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts on May 22, 2010. She received a bachelor of arts degree with concentrations in social sciences and art. Cory is a 2006 graduate of Cook County High School. She is the daughter of Jean and Tim Cochrane of Grand Marais. Cory will be working again this summer as a counselor at YMCA Camp Widjiwagan in Ely, Minnesota. In August 2010, she begins a year of service with Ameri Corp VISTA back in Amherst.
Madaline Cochrane, daughter of Tim and Jean Cochrane of Grand Marais, graduated cum laude from Macalester during the college’s 121st exercises on the lawn outside Old Main on May 15. Cochrane received a liberal arts degree in environmental studies and biology. Cochrane is a 2006 graduate of Cook County High School. Macalester College, founded in St. Paul in 1874, is a national liberal arts college with a full-time enrollment of 1,958 students. Macalester is nationally recognized for its long-standing commitment to academic excellence, internationalism, multiculturalism and civic engagement. Maddy is currently working as a seasonal wildlife biologist on the Deschutes National Forest in Crescent, Oregon.
