Annika Stone earns St. Olaf degree
Annika Stone of Grand Marais was among students graduating from St. Olaf College in ceremonies held May 29.
Annika, who majored in psychology, is a 2012 Cook County High School graduate and is the daughter of Alan and Heidi Stone.
Acero earns UWS scholarships
Matea Acero of Grand Marais was among 343 freshmen at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire who have been awarded scholarships for the 2016-17 academic year.
Acero will receive one of 15 awards of $2,000 through Diversity Achievement, which exists to recruit and retain students of color or economically disadvantaged students enrolled at UW-Eau Claire. This Diversity Achievement is funded by the UW-Eau Claire Foundation. It is awarded in conjunction with federal and Minnesota financial aid grants and/or private Diversity Achievements.
Acero also qualifies for the Freshman Honors Award: All incoming freshmen are invited to join the University Honors Program during their first fall semester and receive a guaranteed $1,000 award if they meet specified academic criteria.
Matea is a 2016 graduate of Cook County High School, and is the daughter of Hartley and Ramior Acero of Grand Marais.
Vander Heiden receives chancellor’s award
Katherine Vander Heiden of Grand Marais has received the chancellor’s award for the spring 2016 semester at the University of Wisconsin- Stout, Wisconsin Polytechnic University.
The award is presented to students who have a grade point average of 3.5 or above.
Vander Heiden was enrolled in the business administration program. Katie is a 2013 graduate of Cook County High School, and is the daughter of Lisa and Donny Sorlie of Grand Marais, and Paul and Deb Vander Heiden of Douglas, Wyoming.
Two local students earn St. Scholastica honors
Roman Schnobrich and Rachel Wieben of Grand Marais have been named to the spring 2016 dean’s list at The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth.
The College of St. Scholastica is nationally recognized for quality. Rankings by U.S. News & World Report and Money magazine classify it as one of the Midwest’s top regional universities.
Two local students among UW-Stout grads
Two Grand Marais students are among the spring 2016 graduates from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie, Wis.
Ashley Deschampe earned a Bachelor of Science degree in health wellness and fitness. She is a 2012 graduate of Cook County High School.
Katherine Vander Heiden earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. Katie is a 2013 Cook County High School graduate.
