LaFavor receives Concordia scholarship
MaeAnna LaFavor is the recipient of a Concordia Scholarship to attend Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota. LaFavor, a 2016 graduate of Cook County High School, is the daughter of Jay and Laura LaFavor of Hovland.
Concordia College is a four-year liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America offering more than 50 majors, including 15 honors majors as well as 12 preprofessional programs.
Katie Vander Heiden honored for academic excellence
Katherine Vander Heiden of Grand Marais, an undergraduate student at the University of Wisconsin- Stout, was recently honored as being in the top 25 (according to grade-point average) at the 53rd annual Greater Menomonie Area Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Education banquet May 18.
Vander Heiden is enrolled in the business administration program. Katie is a 2013 graduate of Cook County High School, and is the daughter of Lisa and Donny Sorlie of Grand Marais, and Paul and Deb Vander Heiden of Douglas, Wyoming.
McMillan on dean’s list at St. Cloud State
Magdalynn McMillan of Grand Marais has earned honors on St. Cloud State University’s 2016 spring semester dean’s list.
In all, more than 1,298 students were recognized for their academic achievement. To be eligible for the honor, students must have a grade point average of 3.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
Magdalynn is the daughter of Shawn Maravigli and Mike McMillan of Grand Marais and is a 2013 graduate of Cook County High School.
St. Cloud State University is Minnesota’s second largest university, with more than 15,000 students from 90 different nations. Students choose from more than 60 graduate study programs and more than 200 majors, minors and pre-professional programs that hold nearly every available national accreditation. The 100-acre campus is located about an hour northwest of Minneapolis along the Mississippi River.
Colin Everson named to UM-Morris dean’s list
Colin Everson of Grand Marais has been named to the University of Minnesota-Morris dean’s list for the spring 2016 semester. To be eligible for the dean’s list students must achieve a grade point average of 3.66 or higher while taking 12 or more credits, two-thirds of these credits on the A-F grading system.
Colin is a 2013 graduate of Cook County High School. He is the son of Mitch and Cindy Everson of Grand Marais.
Morris is the University of Minnesota’s public liberal arts college, a residential campus located in west central Minnesota. Through personal and academic discovery, the college provides opportunities for students to grow intellectually, engage in community, experience environmental stewardship and celebrate diversity.
