Olfson named student representative to American Society of Interior Design
The Alexandria Technical and Community College Interior Design department has announced that Emma Olfson has been nominated and awarded the position of American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) student representative to the board.
According to Interior Design Instructor Betty Ravnik, this is the most prestigious leadership position a student member can hold. The student representative board (SRB) represents all student chapters in his or her region, votes on important ASID issues at professional chapter board meetings and helps a committee plan larger student events and programs.
Founded in 1975, ASID is the oldest, largest and leading professional organization for interior designers. ASID industry partners include more than 2,200 member firms with some 6,500 individual representatives, uniting the professional designer with manufacturers of design-related products and services.
The Society’s membership also includes more than 7,500 students of interior design. ASID has more than 250 student chapters at colleges, universities and design schools.
“This would not have happened without her hard work,” said Ravnik. “We know Emma will do an amazing job!”
Emma is a 2015 graduate of Cook County High School. She is the daughter of Valita Bockovich of Grand Marais and Mark Olfson of Minneapolis.
Lewis completes training at Oaksterdam University
Aubry Lewis of Hovland has completed her studies of medical marijuana and the cannabis industry at Oaksterdam University of Oakland, California.
Dr. Aseem Sappal, provost and dean of faculty, certified that Lewis “has passed all creditable examinations” in classes ranging from the politics, history and legal aspects of marijuana to horticulture, procurement, methods of ingestion and marijuana dispensary operations.
The California school, founded in 2007, has been dubbed the Harvard Business School of marijuana. There have been 23,000 graduates, who range in age from 18 to 65 and represent every state and 30 countries.
Lewis hopes to find employment in a marijuana dispensary or as a bud tender. There are over 750 strains of cannabis and as research progresses, she would like to work hands on with patients to help recommend what strain would best help their ailments. Medical marijuana has been found to be beneficial for many illnesses such as chronic pain, PSD, depression, epilepsy and more.
Aubry is the daughter of Terry and Bob Lewis of Hovland. She is a 2015 graduate of Cook County High School.
