LaFavor accepted to Luther College
Scot Schaeffer, Luther College vice president for enrollment management, has announced that Mae LaFavor of Hovland, Minnesota, has been accepted for admission for the 2016-17 academic year. LaFavor has been awarded the dean’s scholarship.
Mae will graduate from Cook County High School this June. She is the daughter of Jay and Laura LaFavor of Hovland.
Luther is a selective four-year college located in northeast Iowa. The college has an enrollment of 2,400 students and offers a liberal arts education leading to the bachelor of arts degree in 60 majors and pre-professional programs.
Vander Heiden earns UW-Stout honors
Katherine Vander Heiden of Grand Marais is among students who have received the University of Wisconsin-Stout Chancellor’s Award for the fall 2015 semester. The award is presented to students who have a grade point average of 3.5 or above.
UW-Stout, Wisconsin’s Polytechnic University, has 45 undergraduate majors and 23 graduate programs, including one doctoral degree. UW-Stout, established in 1891, prides itself on the success of its students in the workplace, with an employment rate at or above 97 percent for recent graduates.
Vander Heiden is enrolled in the business administration program. Katie is a 2013 graduate of Cook County High School. She is the daughter of Lisa and Donny Sorlie of Grand Marais and Paul and Deb VanderHeiden of Douglas, Wyoming.
Deschampe, Martinson named to UMD dean’s list
The University of Minnesota Duluth has announced its dean’s list for fall semester 2015, and two local students have earned honors: . Sarah L. Deschampe of Grand Portage, a junior enrolled in the Labovitz School of Business & Economics, Management BBA. Sarah is a 2014 graduate of Cook County High School, and is the daughter of Norman and Debbie Deschampe of Grand Portage. . Kyle A Martinson of Schroeder, a senior in the Labovitz School of Business & Economics, Management BBA. Kyle is a 2013 graduate of Cook County High School, and is the son of Bruce and Sheryl Martinson of Schroeder.
Students on the dean’s list have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
