Buchheit earns Iowa degree

Matthew Buchheit of Crystal, Minn. was among 4,345 students who received degrees at Iowa State University’s spring commencement ceremonies in Ames.

Buchheit earned a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial technology.

Gruber-Schulz graduates from Bemidji State

Clay Gruber-Schulz graduated May 7, 2015 from Bemidji State University in Bemidji, Minnesota. Clay received a bachelor of science in geography, with emphases in land use planning and global information systems (GIS).

Clay is the son of John Gruber and Jennifer Schulz of Grand Marais, and a 2011 graduate of Cook County High School.

He has taken a position with Stonemark Land Surveying Inc. of Pequot Lakes.

Axtell earns Northwestern degree

Katrina Axtell of Hovland was among 244 graduating seniors at Northwestern College’s May 9 commencement ceremonies.

Twenty-seven students received Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees, while the rest of the graduating seniors were granted bachelor of arts degrees.

The Rev. John Paul Sundararajan, India-Asia director for Audio Scripture Ministries and a 2000 Northwestern graduate, delivered the commencement speech to the graduating class. Dale Den Herder, a Sioux Center, Iowa, businessman, banker and community leader, received a Doctor of Humane Letters degree during the ceremony.

Axtell majored in biology health professions and Spanish at Northwestern College. She is the daughter of Treg and Denise Axtell of Hovland.

Northwestern College is a Christian college of more than 1,200 students in Orange City, Iowa.

Delamater to serve summer internship

Trevor Delamater of Lutsen, a student at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, will serve in an internship this summer offered through the Carlson Program.

Developed by Northwestern’s Franken Leadership Center, the Carlson Program offers high-impact academic internship opportunities. The internships are offered through the Exploring Vocation seminar course, a two-credit summer course with structured opportunities for vocational reflection.

The program allows for students to gain experience working in their field of study through internships placed throughout the United States, including sites located in Chicago, Detroit and southern California.

To qualify for a Carlson internship, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA, have excellent communications skills and show a desire to expand their leadership capacity.

Delamater is a senior and is majoring in business administration at Northwestern College. He will serve in an internship with Battery Systems in Long Beach, Calif., this summer. Delamater is the son of Mark and Margaret Delamater of Lutsen.

Delamater was also named to Northwestern’s spring 2015 dean’s list, an honor bestowed on students who earn a GPA of 3.75 or higher.
