Brandenburg graduates from Macalester College

Will Brandenburg graduated cum laude from Macalester College with a major in Spanish/Hispanic Studies and a minor in History. A semester in Cuba at the University of Havana was a highlight of his college experience. The son of Ellen Hawkins and Rick Brandenburg, Will graduated from Cook County High School in 2011.

Vander Heiden receives chancellor’s award

Katherine Vander Heiden of Grand Marais received the University of Wisconsin-Stout chancellor’s award for the fall 2014 semester. The award is presented to students who have a grade point average of 3.5 or above.

Vander Heiden is the daughter of Lisa and Donny Sorlie of Grand Marais and Paul and Deb Vander Heiden of Douglas, Wyoming. She is a 2013 graduate of Cook County High School. She is pursuing her Bachelor of Science degree in business administration.

UW-Stout, Wisconsin’s Polytechnic University, has 45 undergraduate majors and 23 graduate programs, including one doctoral degree. UW-Stout, established in 1891, prides itself on the success of its students in the workplace, with an employment rate at or above 97 percent for recent graduates.

Schliep earns nursing degree

Gianna Schliep of Schroeder was among those students presented with degrees from Minnesota State University-Mankato May 9.

Schliep earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.

In all, 2,371 degrees were presented in Taylor Center during the spring/summer commencement ceremony.

Minnesota State-Mankato, a comprehensive university with 15,376 students, is part of the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities system, which comprises 31 state institutions.

Gianna is a 2007 graduate of William Kelly High School in Silver Bay. She is the daughter of Tim and Misty Schliep of Schroeder.
