Mellang graduates from UW-La Crosse

Martina Mellang of Lutsen was among those who completed degree requirements at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in December. The 50th annual midyear commencement was held at the La Crosse Center on Sunday, December 14, 2014.

Martina majored in community health education and received her Master of Public Health degree.

She is a 2004 graduate of Cook County High School and is the daughter of John and Sally Mellang of Lutsen.

UW-La Crosse, founded in 1909, is one of the 13 four-year comprehensive institutions in the University of Wisconsin System. UW-L has more than 10,500 students enrolled in 43 undergraduate majors, 17 master’s degree offerings and three certificate programs.

UW-La Crosse is the state’s top-ranked public or private higher education institution by U.S. News & World Reports for master’s degree institutions and has been ranked among the top four midwestern public institutions for more than a decade.

Olin named to dean’s list at Hibbing Community College

Hibbing Community College (HCC) has announced its fall semester dean’s list recipients. Named to the list is Paul Olin of Grand Marais who is pursuing a degree in law enforcement.

The law enforcement program at HCC is run in an academy setting. Students wear uniforms, stand inspection, and are subject to traditional police policy rules, regulations, and a defined disciplinary process. Students attend a weekly inspection. Law enforcement instruction and training is conducted in the most complete and modern education center in the Upper Midwest.

Requirements for HCC dean’s list honor include a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher, and a current semester credit load of six or more credits.

Olin and other dean’s list students were honored with a special luncheon and recognition ceremony on Wednesday, April 15.
