Joynes named to St. Thomas dean’s list
Ryan Joynes has been named to the University of St. Thomas 2014 fall semester dean’s list. Students must post grade point averages of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale to be named to the dean’s list.
Ryan is a junior majoring in business. He is the son of Jim Joynes and the grandson of Margaret and the late Richard Joynes.
Hovland students named to UM-Twin Cities dean’s list
Two local students have been honored for academic success during the 2014 fall semester at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. Named to the dean’s list were Gavin Danfelt-Martin and Grace Keating, both of Hovland.
Danfelt-Martin is a senior attending the College of Liberal Arts.
Keating is a junior at the College of Liberal Arts.
To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must complete 12 or more letter-graded credits while attaining 3.66 grade point average.
Korst named to dean’s list at Riverland Community College
Riverland Community College is pleased to announce the students whose academic achievement placed them on the 2014 fall dean’s list. Riverland congratulates all of the students for their outstanding academic accomplishments. Named to the dean’s list was Michelle Korst of Grand Marais.
To be eligible for the dean’s list students must have completed 12 credits per semester with letter grades and must have earned a grade point average of 3.25 to 3.99 on a 4.00 scale.
Riverland Community College, a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, is community college that has inspired personal success through education for 75 years. Approximately 4,900 students are served annually through a wide range of credit-based educational opportunities.

Two local students to study overseas
Two local students, Katrina Axtell and Trevor Delamater, are studying overseas this semester as part of a group of students from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.
Applicants for semester-long study abroad programs must pass Northwestern’s writing requirement, demonstrate they would benefit from the experience, have a strong academic record and be a good representative of Northwestern’s Christian liberal arts mission.
This semester, 12 students are studying at sites such as Argentina, El Salvador, London, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, Spain and Uganda. The placements are made with the aid of Northwestern’s Global Education Center.
Axtell is a senior and is majoring in biology health professions and Spanish at Northwestern College. She is studying in Argentina this semester. Axtell is the daughter of Treg and Denise Axtell of Hovland.
Delamater is a junior and is majoring in business administration at Northwestern. He is studying in Oman this semester. Delamater is the son of Mark and Margaret Delamater of Lutsen.
Both students also earned spots on the academic dean’s list for the fall 2014 semester.
The dean’s list is comprised of students who have achieved a semester grade point average of 3.50 or above while carrying a minimum of 12 graded hours. This semester, 415 students qualified for the dean’s list.
Northwestern College is a Christian college of more than 1,200 students.
