Justin Goldstein achieves Alexandria honors

Justin Goldstein of Grand Marais has been named to the 2014 fall semester dean’s list at Alexandria Technical & Community College in Alexandria, Minnesota.

Justin is the son of Kelli Goldstein of Grand Marais and is a 2013 graduate of Cook County High School. He is majoring in law enforcement.

The Alexandria school is recognized as one of the top two-year colleges in the nation.

Bergstrom named to dean’s list at UND

The University of North Dakota has announced its fall 2014 semester dean’s list. Named to the list of the top 15 percent of students attending the College of Education and Human Development was David Bergstrom of Grand Marais.

Dean Robert Hill wrote to the students who earned dean’s list honors: “The teaching and human service professions represented in our college need bright, knowledgeable, and dedicated people. Your record at UND is evidence of your commitment to our work for a world in which human potential is fulfilled…I look forward to your continued success and leadership in our college.”

David is the son of Scott and Lee Bergstrom of Grand Marais. He is a 2012 graduate of Cook County High School.

Clayton Gruber-Schulz earns Bemidji honors

Clayton Gruber-Schulz of Grand Marais has earned a spot on the dean’s list from Bemidji State University at the conclusion of the 2014 fall semester.

Gruber-Schulz is a 2011 graduate of Cook County High School. He is the son of John Gruber and Jennifer Schulz of Grand Marais.

Located in north central Minnesota, Bemidji State University enrolls 5,000 students in over 13 programs on the graduate level.

Locals named to Mesabi Range dean’s list

Mesabi Range Community & Technical College, Eveleth and Virginia, Minnesota, has announced its dean’s list for the fall semester 2014. Several local students have been recognized.

Earning high honors for a grade point average of between 3.75 – 4.0 was Amanda Olson of Grand Marais.

Named to the honors list for a GPA between 3.5 to 3.74 were Cedar Adams of Hovland and Lisa Bloomquist of Grand Marais.

Vermilion Community College dean’s list honors

Vermilion Community College of Ely recently announced dean’s list awardees for the fall semester. A number of local students have attained this honor.

Kaitlynn Linnell of Grand Marais earned high honors with a GPA of 3.5 or more. Kaitlynn is the daughter of Kim and Wendy Linnell of Grand Marais. She graduated from Cook County High School in 2013. When she is not at college, Kaitlynn returns to Grand Marais and works at the Lake Superior Trading Post.

Brandon Curtis of Grand Marais was also named to the high honors list for his GPA of 3.5 or more. Brandon is the son of John and Christina Curtis of Grand Marais. He graduated from CCHS in 2014.

Three Cook County students have been named to the Vermilion honors list for attaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Named to the honors list was Mark Marxen. Mark is the son of Tala and Brandon Marxen of Grand Marais. He is a 2013 graduate of CCHS.

John Pearson was also named to the honors list. He is a 2014 graduate of CCHS. John is the son of Greg Pearson of Grand Marais and Joyce Waswa of Thunder Bay.

Also on the honors list is Joseph Borud. Joe is the son of Steve and Kay Borud of Grand Marais. He is a 2014 graduate of CCHS.

College Registrar Nadine Forsman told the students, “It is a pleasure for us to recognize this outstanding achievement. We wish you well in your future educational endeavors.” Founded in 1922, Vermilion is dubbed the Boundary Waters College.
