Schnobrich named to dean’s list

Cecilia A. Schnobrich, daughter of Monica and Randy Schnobrich of Grand Marais, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2014 semester at St. Michael’s College in Burlington, Vermont.

Schnobrich is a sophomore media studies and digital arts major at the liberal arts and sciences, residential Catholic college.

Students who complete a minimum of 12 credits and achieve a grade point average of at least 3.4 at the end of a semester are recognized for their scholarship by inclusion on the dean’s list.

Schnobrich is a Cook County High School graduate.

Meghan Larson named to Dunwoody dean’s list

Meghan Larson of Silver Bay was named to Dunwoody College of Technology’s spring semester dean’s list. Larson received this honor by upholding a 3.5 grade point average or higher.

Founded in 1914, Dunwoody College of Technology is the only private, not-for-profit technical college in the Upper Midwest. It provides a hands-on, applied technical education to men and women who go on to have meaningful and rewarding careers. Located on the western edge of downtown Minneapolis, the College is currently celebrating its Centennial year.

Local students named to U of MN-Twin Cities dean’s list

Students honored for academic success during the 2014 spring semester have been announced. Kipp Sande of Grand Marais and Molly E. Rider of Lutsen received recognition.

To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must complete 12 or more letter-graded credits while attaining a 3.66 grade point average.

Sande is a senior in the university’s College of Science and Engineering. He is a 2010 graduate of Cook County High School and is the son of Nancy and Steve Sande of Grand Marais.

Rider is a junior in the university’s College of Design. Molly is the daughter of Tom and Ann Rider. She is a 2011 graduate of Cook County High School.

Cook County students named to Mesabi Range dean’s list

Two local students have been recognized for academic achievement at Mesabi Range Community & Technical College.

Waylon Christensen and Sam Crowley of Schroeder have been named to the 2014 spring semester high honors dean’s list at Mesabi Range Community & Technical College. In order to earn high honors students must maintain a GPA of 3.75 to 4.0.

Axtell and Delamater named to dean’s list at Northwestern

Katrina Axtell and Trevor Delamater, students at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, have earned spots on the academic dean’s list for the spring 2014 semester.

The dean’s list is comprised of students who have achieved a semester grade point average of 3.50 or above while carrying a minimum of 12 graded hours. This semester, 346 students qualified for the dean’s list.

Katrina Axtell of Hovland is a senior and a Spanish and biology health professions major at Northwestern College. She is the daughter of Treg and Denise Axtell.

Trevor Delamater of Lutsen is a junior and a business administration major at Northwestern. Trevor maintained a perfect 4.0 average and was given the additional honor of being named a collegiate scholar. He is the son of Mark and Margaret Delamater.

Northwestern College is a Christian college of more than 1,200 students in Orange City, Iowa.

Wieben named to spring dean’s list

Rachel Wieben of Grand Marais was named to the spring 2014 dean’s list at The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth.

Dean’s list members have achieved a 3.75 grade point average or above on a 4.0 scale. Wieben is majoring in nursing – intended.

Rachel is a 2013 graduate of Cook County High School and is the daughter of Dave and Sheila Wieben of Grand Marais.

Cook County students earn dean’s list honors at BSU

Two Cook County students have earned spots on the dean’s list from Bemidji State University at the conclusion of the 2014 spring semester.

Named to the dean’s list was Clayton Gruber-Schulz of Grand Marais. Clay is a 2011 graduate of Cook County High School. He is the son of John Gruber and Jennifer Schulz of Grand Marais.

Also named to the dean’s list was Jesse Johnson of Schroeder. Jesse is a 2011 graduate of Cook County High School. He is the son of Kevin and Sue Johnson of Schroeder.

Located in north central Minnesota, Bemidji State University enrolls 5,000 students in over 13 programs on the graduate level.

Danfelt-Martin earns dean’s list recognition and scholarship

Gavin Danfelt-Martin is recognized on the College of Liberal Arts dean’s list at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus for fall 2013 and spring 2014 semesters with a GPA over 3.6.

Gavin is also the proud recipient of the Donald V. Hawkins Scholarship for $5,000 the second year in a row. This scholarship is established to foster and support student excellence in undergraduate education in communication studies for juniors or seniors in the department.

Gavin graduated from Cook County High School in 2010. He is the son of Bob Martin and Virginia Danfelt of Hovland.

Addie Gecas receives degree, Cooperative Education award

Addie Gecas of Grand Marais received the Cooperative Education Meritorious Achievement Award for 2012-13. UW-Stout Chancellor Charles W. Sorensen presented the award in May.

The award is given to students who apply and are selected by the Cooperative Education Advisory Committee. Students are recognized for excellence and achievements in their cooperative positions, for contributions to their employers and for academic achievement.

Cooperative Education is a paid experience and an academic credit course for students to work with employers worldwide. They experience active learning in a setting where they can apply what they have learned in classes at UW-Stout. Many benefits are realized by students, employers and the university from a quality co-op experience. In 2012-13, 940 UW-Stout students participated in Cooperative Education at more than 525 different employer sites, earning an average of $13.79 per hour. Wages paid to the 2012-13 co-op class totaled approximately $8.5 million. Gecas was employed by Kohl’s Corporation in Menomonee Falls, Wis.

Gecas also participated in commencement ceremonies at the University of Wisconsin-Stout in May. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in apparel design and development.

UW-Stout, Wisconsin’s polytechnic university, has 45 undergraduate majors and 23 graduate programs, including one doctoral degree. Established in 1891, the school prides itself on the success of its students in the workplace, with an employment rate at or above 97 percent for recent graduates.

Addie is the daughter of Greg and Barb Gecas of Grand Marais.
